I frequently find myself in the position of trying to find a service provider and not having any clue a) which ones are out there and b) what their service is like.

Ideally, I would be able to do the following:
Select the type of service (shared vps, managed server, dns backup, mx backup)
Select a desired price point
Select traffic estimate (i.e. grid servers may not be a good choice for low-traffic sites)

Show me a list of providers, ordered by review score. I'm sure this exists, I just haven't been able to find a reliable source.

I did something similar like this (http://opentweets.com/map/npost) to map people's locations based on their twitter location status. The only problem was people didn't seem to update their location often enough. :(

This is a pretty cool idea in terms of getting notified when people are at a certain place, but one of the challenges is definitely figuring out how to identify that somebody is at that place and not just chatting about it.
